Curriculum

Year 1 - level 4

The first year provides an introduction to some of the fundamental aspects of graphic design and visual culture. The focus is on creativity and the generation of ideas that are then taken through a whole series of possible visual routes, as the students strive to provide unique solutions to a set of specific design briefs and problems. Students are encouraged to be curious and explore the many diverse and exciting aspects of visual design, developing concepts and ideas using traditional and digital media.Besides, students will investigate and develop a fundamental understanding of typography, illustration, advertising, editorial design, photography, packaging, corporate identity and web design in the first year.

Year 2 - level 5

Students will continue to explore the many aspects of graphic design and visual communication, building on skills gained and developing new ones, in response to the challenges faced in this rapidly changing and dynamic sector of industry. Many of the project briefs in the second year are live, where students will produce work for a client or agency. They will also be encouraged to identify and explore personal areas of specific interest in more depth, reflect on potential future career paths and start to build a professional portfolio in preparation for the workplace and the final year of study.

Year 3 - level 6

Employability is implicit within this inspiring programme of study as students develop and hone their skills in key aspects of contemporary graphic communications practice. In the third year, students are given the opportunity to initiate, develop and realise creative skills, encouraging then to take more responsibility for planning workloads, working more independently within a framework of tutorial support and feedback.
