Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) as a private institution in Malaysia offers a different take on the level of competitiveness when it comes to sporting events.
With 12 campuses across Malaysia, UniKL holds our UniKL Student Sports Carnival (USSC) annually and the level of competition is intense. From the northern region are contingents from MSI El Matador, MIMET Hammerhead & RCMP Bison. The state of Selangor is home to our BMI Spartan Beez, MFI Roosters, MESTECH Soul Knights & MIAT Dragons. Hailing from the heart of the KL city are the MIIT Phantoms, IPROM Panthers and Business School ‘The Beast’. Not forgetting teams from the southern region, MICET Lions and MITEC Southern Hunters.
The competition includes volleyball, football, futsal, bowling, sepak takraw, rugby 7, badminton, netball, table tennis, tennis, basketball, chess and pentaque. UniKL BMI, Gombak is hosting the event for 2017 and MIAT Dragons was hailed as the overall champions with the highest gold medal tally followed by MIIT Phantom and Business School ‘The Beast’.
The carnival lasted for 4 days from the 18th until the 21st of July 2017 with participation of 2000 athletes and volunteers. There were performances and cultural shows organized throughout the carnival and the host provided space for food truck operators to provide a variety of delicacies for all who attended the event. The USSC is definitely the highlight of the year for UniKL students and next year, UniKL MIAT Sepang will become the host and as MIAT Dragon will be the defending champion, we will look forward to another feisty competition ahead.
