The School of Biosciences was recently pleased to host Dr. Mike Lean, a Professor of Human Nutrition at University of Glasgow (Scotland, UK). He delivered a Guest Lecture entitled “Obesity, Diet and Diabetes: Management of Severe and Complicated Obesity”. Dr Lean holds the chair of Human Nutrition, which is based at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. He has also held Visiting and Adjunct Professorships at the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen (Scotland, UK) and at the University of Otago (New Zealand). He has been a non-executive director of the Health Education Board of Scotland for 8 years, and chaired the Food Standards Agency Advisory Committee on Research. In 2013 he was awarded the "Rank Nutrition Lectureship" by Diabetes UK. Prof. Lean has published over 400 peer-reviewed papers - with H-Index of 79. The purpose of his lecture at Taylor's University was to create awareness in preventing and managing Type 2 diabetes, which is a growing problem in Malaysia, and to meet with researchers at Taylor's University who are interested in this area.
