About
The 3-month Patient Care Assistant (PCA) / Healthcare Assistant (HCA) programme at IMC consists of one month of theoretical learning followed by two months of hands-on training. This programme is designed to equip individuals with the necessary skills to work in hospital settings, nursing homes, and aged care facilities, assisting in meeting the fundamental healthcare needs of patients and residents. The acquired skill sets enhance employability within various healthcare facilities.
PCA/HCA personnel work under the supervision of trained nurses and are responsible for providing approximately 80%–90% of the personalised care required by patients or residents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing basic care to patients in hospitals, nursing homes, and community healthcare facilities.
- Assisting with feeding, bathing, and dressing patients.
- Supporting patient mobility and transportation within healthcare settings.
- Responding to patient calls for assistance.
- Ensuring patient comfort by maintaining a clean and organized environment.
- Monitoring and recording patients' nutritional intake and output.
- Recognizing and promptly reporting any changes in a patient’s general condition to supervisors.
- Assisting trained nurses in simple, non-sterile procedures.
- Providing basic first aid when required.
- Alerting trained nurses during emergencies.
- Organizing social interaction activities for patients.
Upon successful completion of the programme, students will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance in Patient Care Assistant from IMC.
