Entry Requirements

  • Entry to the Creative Writing postgraduate programme is determined by portfolio and a qualification equivalent to a first degree.
  • Professional memberships or a background in professional writing may be acceptable.Regardless of prior qualifications, all applicants will be required to submit a portfolio of work to demonstrate an ability to study at PGDip/MA level in Creative Writing.
  • Evidence of the above will be sought at portfolio interview. The minimum level of English language competence expected of students who do not have English as their first language will normally be IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.

Curriculum

Throughout the programme, you are encouraged to employ your own writing as the basis for your study, using fragments of your work in progress to complete the twelve units. It is for writers who wish to publish novels. Within this, there are opportunities to develop – to a professional standard – screenplays, TV and radio dramas, poetry, hypertext and other forms. The teaching focuses on the craft of writing – firstly the creative inspiration, secondly editorial objectivity.
