Entry Requirements

  • GCSE: For all applicants, Grade C or above, or Grade 4 under newly reformed GCSE grading, in English Language and Mathematics, or equivalent. Please note the University does not accept Level 2 Key Skills, Functional Skills or Certificates in Adult Numeracy and Literacy as suitable alternatives to GCSEs.
  • A-level subjects: No specific subjects required. Points from A-Level General Studies and AS-Level subjects (not taken onto full A-Level) can be included towards overall tariff. You must have a minimum of two A-Levels.
  • EDEXCEL (BTEC) Diploma: No specific subjects required.
  • Access: Achievement of the Access to HE Diploma; to include 30 level 3 credits at merit.
  • Baccalaureate IB: No specific subjects required.

English Language Requirement:

  • If English is not your first language, you will be required to meet the UK Border Agency and Universities minimum English Language requirements such as the International English Language Test (IELTS) overall score of 6.0 with 5.5 in each component. 

Curriculum

Year 0 (Foundation Year)

  • Becoming a Professional
  • Introduction to Organisations, Enterprise and Management 
  • Economics and Accounting for the Real World
  • Introduction to Law in a Social, Business and Global Context

Year one

The first year provides a foundation for the development of the knowledge, skills and attributes necessary for your future success.

  • Meeting the Management Challenge (Accounting, Economics and Finance)
  • Understanding Business and Financial Information (Accounting, Economics and Finance)
  • Economic Principles in a Contemporary Context (Accounting, Economics and Finance) 
  • Understanding Organisations and People (Accounting, Economics and Finance)
  • Understanding the Principles of Marketing (Accounting, Economics and Finance)
  • Engaging in Critical Business Enquiry (Accounting, Economics and Finance)

Year two

In the second year, you will study modules relating to the main functional areas of business where you will also develop your research and enquiry skills. In addition, you will study two Accounting and Finance modules (one in each semester).

  • Managing People (Accounting, Economics and Finance)
  • Managerial Accounting and Finance
  • Methods of Enquiry (Accounting, Economics and Finance)
  • Managing Business Processes (Accounting, Economics and Finance)

You will then select one option from:

  • Principles of Taxation OR Corporate Finance

Plus one option from:

  • Market Analysis for Private Investors
  • Business Law
  • Credit Management Theory and Practice
  • Good Business, Bad Business and Sustainability
  • Governance and Sustainability

All students are encouraged to spend their third year on a placement and the curriculum in the second year provides support for the process of securing this.

Final year

The final year will include a major project, along with modules requiring the integration of the knowledge and abilities gained in the earlier years of study. The final year curriculum also includes a focus on managing change, both in organisational terms and in terms of your own career.

  • Project: Work-based Enquiry OR Critical Business Enquiry OR Applied Business OR Business (international direct entrants only)

  • Managing Organisational and Individual Change (Accounting, Economics and Finance)
